As well as being successful as a war movie described as a kind of a North African Saving Private Ryan, the film deals with discriminatory treatment of French Africans which is still an issue today, and led to a change in government policy.

This African soldiers have never set foot in Motherland France but because France was at war, they are willing to liberate France from the German occupancy and yet they are treated shabbily in an army organisation prejudiced in favour of the European French.

The discrimination by the French authorities against these soldiers continued as successive French governments froze the war pensions of these indigenous veterans, and it was only after the film's release that the government policy was changed to bring foreign combatant pensions into line with what French veterans are paid

This DVD was on my shelf for a good 6months before i managed to get around watching it this afternoon... i am particular with what kind of genre i am watching as not to affect my mood. I thought it would be one of those movies hard to digest and i would have to really focus in order to understand it...i was wrong..

This movie is funny and i am sure many of us would be able to relate to it one way or another.. Its easy on the mind and its entertaining...Its about a young man and his quest looking for love but somehow his relationships are stifled by his sex addiction.

Everyone has a little kid inside of them...And that little kid inside of me gives this movie 5stars!!

I was really tripping when i watched this movie. It really captures you and you just can't help but wanting to be in the scene itself.

Anyway, movie casts includes Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Charlie Cox, Sienna Miller,Rupert Everett, Nathaniel Parker, Peter O'Toole, David Kelly, and Mark Heap.

For those of you who read the novel i am sure you will enjoy the movie too.
